Introduction: A Bass Powerhouse Emerges
No one is doing what Blu DeTiger is doing. At just 25, the bass phenom is used to making waves in the music industry. Now with the release of her debut album, All I Ever Want Is Everything, the artist sets her sights even higher, and with her talent, we have little doubt she’ll achieve everything she wants. During our photoshoot in Los Angeles, DeTiger spoke candidly about her inspiration to pick up the bass, the personal and artistic growth behind her album, and finding joy in the process even when you want everything.

The Early Days: Prodigy in the Making
DeTiger was first inspired to try music thanks to her older brother’s drumming. Never afraid to stand out, DeTiger chose the bass guitar over the more popular six-string. During our chat, DeTiger reflected, “I thought the guitar was mainstream. I just saw a lot of girls playing guitar. I didn't see a lot of girls playing bass. So I wanted to be different.” Since then, DeTiger has emerged as one of the world’s most recognizable bass players. She’s already completely redefined the gig, but she’s not done just yet. Her new album shows that she can do more than just riff on the bass, and her singing and songwriting talents are just as impressive.

Musical Evolution: Crafting Her Signature Sound
It’s rare to meet such a multi-talented person, especially when they’re as laid back as DeTiger. During our chat, she casually mentioned previous collabs with powerhouses like Jack Antonoff, Olivia Roderigo, and Mayer Hawthorne — who produced the song “Sad Girl Machine” off her new album. Despite these projects, DeTiger mentioned that it was her album that solidified her artist mentality, saying “I was always an artist, but there's something about putting together your first album that really makes it feel real. I just had to figure out kinda where I fit just music and within myself, spiritually, emotionally, and everything.” The album encapsulates this transformation, inspired by both her recent move to LA and her New York City roots. As DeTiger says, it’s “about appreciating where you are right now. It's all about growth… Just be present, be in the moment.”
Highlight Track: "Latency"
"Latency," a standout track from the album, encapsulates the exhilarating, sometimes chaotic, journey of self-discovery that defines the album:
I went on a detour, so long,
Baby two-seater, solo,
I was out late,
Trouble on the way,
I'm cravin' the thrills, yeah, I wanna know,
Set me free in the wreckin' zone,
I blow 'em all away,
Fever on the brain,
Trippin' on latency,
Hazy with the gasoline…

From Ping-Pong (Almost) Pro to Music Maven
Aside from her many musical talents, it seems there’s nothing Blu DeTiger can’t do, and in a different world, this interview might have been with Blu DeTiger: Ping Pong Pro. You may not know that as a child, Blu DeTiger showed talent for ping pong, so much so that the Olympic women’s coach scouted her — no joke. As Blu recalled with a laugh, "The coach told my parents, ‘I could train her to go all the way’ … Because I had so much dedication.” DeTiger ultimately chose music over ping pong, because “music was always just my favorite thing.” For the record, we think the music industry is much better off with Blu DeTiger in it, though we can’t speak for the ping-pong world.

Conclusion: An Artist to Be Inspired By
From her childhood choice to play bass to her viral TikTok riffs, Blu DeTiger has always pushed boundaries with her music. She continues this trend with her debut album, which seamlessly melds pop, rock, and funk to craft a sound unlike any other. All I Ever Want Is Everything, is a testament to DeTiger’s creativity and determination, and it’s well worth the listen. One thing is for certain, if a Blu DeTiger world takeover is imminent, we’ll certainly all be better off.
